SPACE FLIGHT ADVENTURE CAMP

VIRGINIA SPACE FLIGHT ACADEMY

DORMITORY RULES AND REGULATIONS

The Virginia Space Flight Academy ( VSFA ) is an academic community dedicated to the advancement of learning in a fun and safe environment.  Due to the nature of the educational process, the Academy is committed to a philosophy of mutual tolerance and respect.  All students admitted to Academy programs should fully understand the responsibility thus placed upon them.

Students, faculty, and staff both on and off Academy premises are subject to the same Federal, State and Municipal laws as other citizens.  The proper authorities may prosecute a student who violates a Federal, State, or Municipal law.  A student who violates Academy  regulations is subject to disciplinary action and will be billed for damages.

The rules and regulations, which follow, have been adopted in order to assure the safety of all participants in the various programs affected by the VSFA. An appropriate educational climate is expected at all times.

1.  Each student is responsible for maintaining a satisfactory room. Food or drinks are not allowed in dormitory areas. Rooms will be inspected before the end of camp and students will be charged for damages to their assigned rooms. For this reason, students are responsible for the actions of others who are visiting their room. Report any destructive behavior of others to a counselor immediately.

2.  Use of controlled drugs without medical prescription or under a doctor’s supervision is prohibited.  Use of, possession of, or the distributions of marijuana or similar drugs are subject to Federal and State prosecution. VSFA is a drug, alcohol and tobacco free campus.  Therefore, these substances are prohibited. Possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by students is prohibited. Students are subject to dismissal, without refund, for violation of this rule. The use of fireworks on the grounds of the campus is prohibited. Gambling and the possession of pornographic materials are also prohibited.

3.  Quiet hours are for the benefit of all students and extend from 10 PM to 6 AM.  Students should be in their assigned rooms during these hours. Doors are to remain open, lights are to be off and no visitation will be permitted during these hours. Furniture, including mattresses, is not to be moved.

4.    Do not enter any building other than buildings indicated by instructors.  Entrance into any other building will be considered breaking and entering. No inter-visitation between male and female dormitories or with college dormitories and/or college recreation areas is permitted. No overnight visitors are allowed on campus without permission from the Executive Director.  Students and visitors are not allowed to bring pets on the campus.

5. For your own protection wear shoes and shirts at all time.

Good Behavior Contract

Virginia Space Flight Academy 2010

Over the years, we have been pleased with the high interest shown by the students in the camp and in the respect they have for each other and their instructors.  Each summer, we have very few discipline incidents in which a camper has had to be dismissed from a camp due to continuous disruptive behavior.

This is the procedure we follow when we have a camper involved with unacceptable behavior:

First offense, camp instructor discusses unacceptable behavior with child.

Second offense, camp instructor will discuss problem with parent.

Third offense, camp instructor notifies parent in the evening that child has been dismissed from further attending remainder of camp.  Parent must pick camper up the following morning before 12:00 noon.  No refund provided.

NOTE: SERIOUS OR DISRUPTIVE/DISTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR THAT INTERFERES WITH NORMAL CAMP OPERATION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL WITH NO PREVIOUS NOTICE TO PARENT AND NO REFUND OF TUITION PAYMENT.
